I think part of the confusion is that whenever growth/fixed mindset is defined or explained, it is as polar opposites. There has not been a shift in thinking that mindset is a continuum that is fluid. People may say I have a fixed mindset in math or a growth mindset in literacy, but you rarely hear the reflection about specifics. An example might be-a growth mindset in effort based in my belief that if one works hard they can become excellent at something, but I struggle with that same mindset in how I embrace challenges because if I constantly am making mistakes how am I going to learn the “right” way. Plus there is such a negative connotation to the term fixed. It may discourage individuals from being honest in their reflection because fixed equates with wrong.
